Questions & answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions families ask about GAPP.
Does having a diagnosis mean my child qualifies for GAPP?
No. A diagnosis by itself does not determine GAPP eligibility. Georgia Medicaid considers the child’s medical needs, eligibility requirements, and whether medically necessary services meet program criteria.
Does my child need Medicaid before applying for GAPP services?
GAPP is a Georgia Medicaid program. A child must meet applicable Medicaid and GAPP requirements for services to be authorized. WeLIVE can help families understand what information may be needed and where to start.
Does my child need a physician’s order?
Georgia Medicaid states that eligible members should already be receiving physician-ordered services to be considered for GAPP.
Who decides whether services are approved?
Georgia Medicaid determines eligibility and authorization for GAPP services. WeLIVE Healthcare Services helps families gather information and submit requests through the GAPP provider process.
Are GAPP services automatically approved?
No. GAPP services require prior authorization, and approval depends on the child’s Medicaid eligibility, medical necessity, and program requirements.
How many hours of care can my child receive?
The amount of authorized care is based on the child’s individual medical needs and the services approved by Georgia Medicaid. WeLIVE does not determine or guarantee the number of approved hours.
How long does the review process take?
Processing time can vary based on the child’s situation, the information required, and Medicaid review. We do not guarantee a specific approval timeline.
Can my child keep their current doctors?
GAPP does not automatically require a family to change physicians. Care planning may involve coordination with your child’s existing medical providers.
Can a parent or family member be a paid caregiver?
Georgia Medicaid currently recognizes a GAPP Personal Care Support option using a Family Caregiver Option. Whether a family member can serve in that role depends on program requirements and the child’s approved services.
What should I have ready when I contact WeLIVE?
You do not need to have everything prepared before contacting us. We can help you understand what information may be needed based on your child’s situation.
